As part of Circular Economy Month, Waste Reduction Week takes place from October 19 to 25 and encourages us to rethink what we throw away and discover simple ways to reduce waste in our everyday lives.
Reducing waste starts with small choices at home. By making thoughtful decisions about what we buy, use, and dispose of, we can help conserve resources, reduce landfill waste, and support a more sustainable future.
SIMPLE WAYS TO REDUCE WASTE
- Reduce What You Use: choose reusable products whenever possible, avoid unnecessary packaging, and consider what you truly need before making a purchase
- Reuse and Repurpose: give items a second life by finding new uses for things you already own, sharing with others, or donating gently used clothing, furniture, and household items
- Repair Before Replacing: repairing items when possible helps extend their lifespan and keeps valuable materials in use for longer
- Reduce Food Waste: plan meals, store food properly, and use leftovers creatively to help reduce the amount of food that ends up in the garbage
RECYCLE RESPONSIBLY
Proper recycling helps ensure materials can be recovered and reused. Take a moment to check your local recycling guidelines and make sure items are sorted correctly before placing them in your recycling bin.
Every item kept out of landfill makes a difference.
Together, our everyday choices can help reduce waste, protect resources, and build cleaner, healthier communities.
