Through the Northern Birthday Box Project, Greenwin Cares supports children living in remote northern communities—many of them Indigenous—by helping bring birthday celebrations to life where access to party supplies and special treats can be limited.
This month, we are excited to celebrate Nadia, who turns 4 on September 3.
Nadia is from Igloolik, Nunavut, a remote Inuit hamlet with a population of about 1,700. Located on an island in the Foxe Basin in Nunavut’s Qikiqtaaluk Region, Igloolik is a community surrounded by rich Inuit history and culture. The name “Igloolik” means “there is a house here,” referring to ancient sod houses rather than snow igloos.
For her celebration, Nadia has selected a Princess-themed birthday. Her box includes a variety of treats such as chocolates, candies, cake mix, icing, along with festive decorations to help bring her chosen theme to life and make the occasion extra special.
The Northern Birthday Box Project goes beyond delivering gifts—it is about creating meaningful connections, honouring each child’s birthday, and nurturing a sense of community despite distance. Every child deserves to feel seen and celebrated on their special day.
