This past Saturday, July 18, Greenwin Cares, in partnership with the San Romanoway Revitalization Association (SRRA), proudly hosted the 7th Annual Tastes and Sounds of Jane & Finch—a vibrant celebration of culture, connection, and community spirit.

The SRRA is a charitable organization committed to creating a sense of belonging in the community by supporting families, individuals, and groups. They take a proactive approach to community safety, involving a variety of stakeholders in their efforts to build a safer and healthier environment. The SRRA's programming includes summer day camps, breakfast and after-school assistance for children and youth, educational and empowerment sessions, and seniors' lunch programs. This model exemplifies how public-private partnerships can foster a more connected community, leading to a greater positive impact through insight-based support services and programming.

Although the event was scaled back due to inclement weather and poor air quality, the spirit of the celebration remained stronger than ever. Thanks to the collaboration, creativity, and dedication of everyone involved, the festivities were successfully moved indoors to the 15 San Romanoway Community Centre, where residents of all ages enjoyed a fun-filled day together.

The event was filled with activities for the whole community, including games, arts and crafts, a bouncy castle, cotton candy, popcorn, an amazing selection of local vendors, musical performances, and delicious Nigerian food prepared by Joy from the RCIY team. A special thank you to DJ Kenny G for keeping the energy high and creating a fun atmosphere that brought everyone together throughout the celebration.

A special shout-out goes to our Greenwin Cares team, Lily W. and Melissa G., who played a key role in planning, organizing, and setting up the event. Their commitment, energy, and ability to adapt helped ensure that the community could still come together and enjoy a memorable celebration despite the unexpected challenges.

We want to recognize the incredible support from the SRRA team who helped make the event a success. A special thank you to Lisset for leading a wonderful children’s musical performance featuring singing, dancing, and drumming, showcasing the incredible talent and creativity within the community.

We are also deeply grateful to MP Judy Sgro and Councillor Anthony Perruzza for their continued support and for joining us on Saturday. Their steadfast commitment to our community and their ongoing support of our work make a meaningful difference.

Special thanks to this year’s sponsors and supporters:
