Did you know Canadians are estimated to toss 50 kilos of waste around the holidays? That’s 25% more than the rest of the year.

During the holiday season, it is crucial to approach waste disposal with a conscientious mindset to minimize environmental impact. Try using eco-friendly wrapping paper or reusing décor whenever possible. Proper organization is key when it comes to disposing of items – remember, certain wrapping such as bubble wrap/envelopes, plastic strapping from boxing, packing peanuts, foil/metallic wrapping paper, ribbons, bows, and fruit crates go in the garbage, not recycling. Be sure to break down large cardboard boxes to ensure efficient use of recycling space, and deposit them in designated recycling bins.

When it comes to food waste – leftovers are your friend. Remember, you can always freeze something for later or turn it into a new culinary creation. If you have an organics stream at your building, be sure to utilize it. By adopting these mindful practices, we can collectively contribute to a greener and more sustainable post-holiday cleanup.

Happy Holidays!
