Toronto Police Chief Mark Saunders Visits the Believe to Achieve Organization's Spider's Web Drop-In Centre for At-Risk Youth in Toronto's Jane/Wilson Corridor
TORONTO, ON – As Black History Month kicks off, on Monday February 8, 2016 at 3:20 p.m., Toronto Police Chief Mark Saunders visited Spider's Web Youth Drop-In Centre, a safe haven for at-risk youth operated by the Believe to Achieve Organization. There, he met with some of the many kids working closely with mentor, media personality, award-winning author and three-time Golden Glove boxing champion Spider Jones.
Headquartered in an apartment building at 160 Chalkfarm Drive, the centre operates in a fully renovated space provided and maintained by Canadian landlord and property manager Greenwin Inc. Here, Spider and his team work with up to 60 young people a day.
"Spider Jones' efforts are a good example of community leadership: showing love and support and understanding to young people-to show a better way and support good life choices for kids," said Chief Saunders.
"We are so honoured to host Chief Saunders," Spider Jones said. "The Web is changing lives. We feed kids after school. We help them with their homework in our computer room. We mentor and empower them and encourage education as a way out of tough neighborhoods and mean streets."
Added Chief Saunders, "Having kids understand that we are on their side, and having communities understand that we are there for them to support their dreams and their kids-this is what community policing and healthy communities are all about."
