Job Description
Summary: The Payroll Manager will be responsible for overseeng the transmission of designated bi-weekly and semi-monthly payrolls. Other key responsibilities include: calculation and disbursement of wages, deductions, overtime payments, commission earnings and payroll taxes, GL Account Reconciliation, labour cost payroll and preparation of payroll budgets.
What you’ll get to do:
- Manage the preparation and distribution of the organization's (union and non-unionized) hourly and salaried employees for multiple payroll groups in Ontario and Quebec
- Proactively work with various departments, clients, employees, etc. in the resolution of payroll issues and inquiries thoroughly and in a professional manner
- Process withholdings of all legally required deductions (CPP, EI, WSIB, EHT, etc.)
- Manage the preparation and monthly/quarterly/annual filings of required reports and/or payments to government agencies, insurance carriers, employees, etc. including all legally required tax filings
- Responsible for accurate calculations and withholdings of payroll deductions for employee contributions to life and health insurance, multiple union pension and welfare payments
- Participate in research and implementation of any new payroll functuality, reports or enhancements
- Recommend changes in methods or procedures to improve the efficiency and effeciveness of the payroll function
- Produce and analyze periodic and special reports on payroll matters
- Participate in finance projects as required and assigned
Who you are:
- Managerial/supervisory experience is a must
- Exceptional customer service and resolution skills for internal and external clients
- Minimum 5+ years payroll experience (transmission of multiple payrolls, 500+ employees and multiple jurisdictions preferred)
- PCP designation an asset plus working towards the Certified Payroll Manager (CPM) certification)
- Ceridian Dayforce experience an asset (knowledge of payroll systems required)
- Knowledge of Unions preferred with solid understanding of Collective Bargaining Agreements
- Excellent working knowledge of MS Office with advanced Excel skills
- Technically competent and confident learning and training on new software and/or payroll systems
- Strong and proven analytical skills
- Consistent and reliable – able to regularly meet and exceed payroll deadlines and schedules
- Ability to work independently and in a team environment
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment while ensuring excellent attention to detail
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
