1. Cozy Blankets – Let's face it, as the temperatures drop, more time is spent indoors, probably on the couch curled up in front of the television. What better way to do that than with your favourite blanket? Get a nice basket that you can place in your family room. Fold your blankets and roll them up to put in the basket. It looks nice and when you have company there's plenty for everyone.

  1. The Smell of Autumn – One of the best things about the season is the smell! The fresh, crisp air, the leaves, and of course pumpkin spice lattes. Why not bring some of your favourite fall scents into your home? Bath and Body Works has beautiful air fresheners called "wallflowers". They come in different styles (all with the fall-theme) and the scents are flavoured with fall favourites, such as Spiced Pumpkin Cider, Leaves, and Cranberry Woods (just to name a few).

  1. One With Nature – Placing ornaments in glass bowls and vases has become a decorating trend recently. It looks great, but is also simple, elegant, and cheap! For fall, try putting pinecones or acorns in a glass bowl and placing it on the coffee table or on the mantle. You can buy fake pinecones at the store, or you can pick some up outside and spray paint them with metallic colours to give it that mystical fall effect. A leaf (or faux-leaf) wreath would also look great on your door or above the mantle and makes your apartment warm and welcoming.

  1. Owls – Owls are all the rage right now, especially for autumn. Owls are wise animals, often used to symbolize studying and going back to school, as well as autumn in general. An owl shaped jar, candle, or pillow can really make all the difference in your home.  Chapters and Indigo stores have a vast array of home décor items with owls to fit every need!

  1. Fall Colours – One way to make your home feel like fall is placing accent colours here and there. Golds, reds, oranges, and deep greens all scream autumn. Whether it be accent pillows for the couch, placemats for the table, napkins, or towels, adding these colours will make your place feel like fall-cozy.

  1. Apples – For many people, September means apple picking. It's also nice and decorative to have a bowl of apples out on the table with your pickings (or your store-bought apples).

  1. Mason Jars – Mason jars can spruce up any home, especially in the fall. They work well on their own, or you can fill them with anything and everything. You can paint them, light them up, fill them with fun things, and they will always look great. Fill them with candy, coffee beans, or spices to spruce up your kitchen and keep it smelling great. Another idea is to put seasonal fall flowers in the jars for a rustic vase look. If you like low lighting, you can put tea lights in the jars or hang Christmas lights around the jars.
