London Apartments
Renters looking for a quiet residential area to rent in should check out the Huron Street and Kipps Lane areas in the northeast area of London. Currently undergoing major revitalization, these neighbourhoods offer plenty of large, affordable apartments. Residents benefit from six elementary and high schools in the area, five churches and one mosque nearby. Parks are available for recreation, including the Stoneybrook Recreation Field and North London Sports Fields, while rental buildings located along Kipps Lane overlook the Thames River, which is bordered by scenic walking and biking trails. Grocery shopping is available on Adelaide Street and Highbury Avenue, only a short drive or walk from most apartments for rent. This neighbourhood is about halfway between the university and college, which means residents in the area are primarily students, families and working people. Commuters can reach most areas of the city with ease and the city’s downtown is a 10-minute drive south. London has a great public transit system and buses pass regularly along surrounding arterial streets.
London has a population more tha 400,000 people and is the dominant city in southwestern Ontario from an economic, financial, and cultural standpoint. Many residents of smaller areas gradually move to London seeking employment opportunities and amenities no longer available in Ontario’s smaller rural towns so the city benefits from a vast supply of labour and demand for housing. London has long been the headquarters for some of Canada’s largest insurance companies and the presence of that industry is still felt in the city’s downtown. Other major industries include Electro-Motive Diesels (railways locomotives) and General Dynamics (military vehicles). Being the only large city for an hour’s drive in any direction, London offers excellent shopping and a busy commercial base. The city is the home of the University of Western Ontario, one of Canada’s leading universities, plus Fanshawe College, a prominent college. London is located on the north side of Highway 401, which leads west to Windsor and Detroit and east past Kitchener and Cambridge to the Greater Toronto Area (GTA).
